As she completed her degree, course of her life changed and she was offered to act in a Kannada film directed by Dinesh Babu. Thus Divya Spandana stepped into the film industry as Ramya with the movie 'Abhi' starring against actor Puneet Rajkumar. The film became a big hit in Kannada and made her the 'golden girl' and paved the way for her career in film industry. After this, she became a favourite for both the audience as well as filmmakers. She has to her credit numerous hits in Kannada and has worked with the big banners and big directors. She has acted with Puneet Rajkumar in three movies namely Dinesh Babu directed 'Abhi' as Bhanu (her debut film), as Nandhini in Mahesh Babu directed film 'Aakash' and as Shruthi in 'Arasu', yet another film by Mahesh Babu. She has acted in films with heroes like Sunil Rao, Sudeep, Murali, Aadithya, Dhyan, Vijaya Raghvendra, and Prem. Her Kannada film "Arasu" was a hit along with Puneet Rajkumar and Meera Jasmine released in early 2007. In the movie 'Arasu', Ramya shined in the emotional sequences. For the film she worked hard to loss a few kilos in order to fit into the role of the film and successfully has lost eight kg for the movie. In 'Gowramma', the B. Naganna directed movie she appeared in the title role Gowri along with Upendra. A heroine-themed film, as is evident from the film's title, was a remake of Telugu hit 'Nuvvu Naaku Nachchav'.
| With a success rate of close to 90% in her career she is considered to be the 'golden girl' in Kannada film industry. The movie 'Amrithadhare' directed by Nagathihalli Chandrasekhar with Dyan as the hero proves her acting prowess. The film was remade into Telugu as 'Amrutha Varsham' keeping Divya as the herorine opposite to Samir Dattani. Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan has made a guest appearance as himself in this movie as its script being the hero.
In the Dinakar directed film 'Jothe Jotheyali', Ramya is paired with Nenapirali Prem. Ramya acted in 'Thananam Thananam' with Shaam, directed by award winning director Kavitha Lankesh. She has been advertised by the big directors like Dinesh Babu, Prem, Yogaraj Bhat, Bharath, M S Ramesh and Mahesh Babu. Meanwhile Divya has been acting in Tamil and Telugu movies as well.
Divya Spandana who literally rules the roost in Kannada filmdom has been quite keen to make it big in Tamil films. Her breakthrough in Tamil film Industry came in 2003 opposite to Silambarsan in the movie 'Kuthu' directed by Kuttu Venkatesh. In the earlier Tamil films, she was introduced as Ramya to Tamil audiences. However the debut film in Tamil film industry (Kollywood) had bombed at the box-office but Tamil audience has lovingly named her 'Kuthu Ramya' following her debut in the film 'Kuthu'. She got many offers for appearing in various roles and has performed them efficiently. In Tamil she has acted in films like 'Giri' and 'Thoondil' along heroes Arjun and Shaam. In 'Thoondil' opposite to Shaam she played an obsessed lover with a negative shade and got rave reviews for her role even though the movie wasn't very well received at cinema halls. Divya, the Ramya of Kannada movies, being the 'golden Girl' in the Kannada Film Industry was not well received in Kollywood until her re-entry in kollywood with the new screen name. She made her re-entry into Tamil films as Divya with 'Polladhavan' opposite Dhanush. The name Divya is believed to have brought her more luck in getting hi-fling roles. This film made her popular among the Tamil audience. In her film 'Polladhavan' (2007 film) she was paired with Dhanush. The movie title was a borrowed from superstar Rajinikanth's past hit title. Rajinikanth was all praises for the entire crew of Polladhavan, released during Deepavali period. Ramya has also acted in a new short film, which was made to create AIDS awareness. The story of the film was by Meera Nair and the film was directed by none other than Santosh Sivan. In 2006 she appeared in the title role Julie in the movie 'Julie' a remake of yesteryear Malayalam block buster of Tamil actress Lakshmi which was remade to different languages of its national appeal in the theme. But the 2006 'Julie' was a disaster worth no mention. A movie she might prefer to forget. In the film Divya was paired opposite to Dino Morea and was directed by Poornima Mohan. And then this damsel got Gautham Menon's "Vaaranam Aayiram" opposite Surya. Though Divya's mother tongue is Kannada she speaks Tamil fluently, and is able to read and write the language. For 'Vaaranam Aayiram' she has dubbed in her own voice. 'Vaaranam Aayiram, the film fetched mixed reviews and the film showcases her as a practical girl with girl-next-door looks. The character in which she appeared as a 14-year-old girl offered her plenty of scope to explore and experiment in terms of looks, costumes and body language. Sharing the screen with Sameera Reddy and Simran she was able to prove her mettle and has done serious acting in the movie. The film has opened doors to new avenues, what her debut film in Tamil couldn't do. Now Divya is one among the industry's top line heroines. Divya's days are getting busier, the glow in Ramya's face is a reflection of her hard work, of a girl who aims for greater heights… |
