Model Turned Actress - Amrita Rao

Amrita Rao was born in a conservative Saraswat Brahmin family. Amrita Rao studied at C.G. High School and later graduated with a degree in Psychology from Sophia College. Amrita Rao did not want to purse any career with Bollywood, as she wanted to graduate in psychology, which she eventually did, Actress is a graduate in psychology. The actress quit the college to pursue a career in modelling.

The hot actress did 30 commercial ads before coming to films.

Amrita Rao started her career in showbiz industry as a model and then graduated to acting in films. Her first assignment was for the “Fairever face cream”. Since then Amrita Rao has appeared in more than thirty-five advertisements.

She was noticed by the film director Raj Kanwar in Cadbury’s Perk advertisement and signed her for his movie “Ab Ke Baras”. “Ab Ke Baras” did not do well at the Box Office but she was admired and appreciated for her performance. Her second film “Ishk Vishk “was a super hit. Amrita Rao won the Filmfare Best Debutant award for her performance in the movie “Ishk Vishk”. Since then she never looked back and Amrita was offered variety of roles in the coming films. Her other hit movies are “Masti”, “Main Hoon Na”& “Vivah”. After that Amrita did a number of films but most of them could not make any impact at the Box Office.

M F Hussain, a famous artist has plans to start a series of paintings inspired by Vivah and Amrita Rao.

Though her debut film was ‘Ab Ke Baras’ in 2002 she came to limelight after the success of her “Ishq Vishk” 2003.

To protect my self-respect, in the heat of the moment, I slapped her. I have no regrets because she totally deserved it for her behavior towards me at that point of time. One of her fan persistently sent messages and gifts, including a two-month-old puppy from Patna despite of her indifference. Though she loves the fans, later she decided to put an end to his madness.

Amrita Rao also has a Telugu movie to her credit which turned out a huge box office hit with Mahesh Babu who is charming hero in tollywood industry, Amrita Rao is fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, and Konkani. Amrita Rao is passionate about reading short stories.
